Trinidad 7 pot/7 pod - rare and hot!By Jim (Habanero) Duffy
The Trinidad 7 Pot or Trinidad 7 Pod has been rumored to have as much heat as the World Famous Bhut Jolokia, considered by some as the hottest chile in the world! It is called the 7 Pot because it is rumored that one pepper can add heat and flavor to 7 pots of stew!!! If you can get past the heat it has a kind of fruity flavor.
The Trinidad 7 Pot or 7 Pod is not grown commercially in Trinidad. This is a chile found in the back country. So it is possible different strains may surface in the years to come. The Trinidad 7 Pot has a pebble surface like the Bhut Jolokia and Naga Morich. More ribs are visible though in the outer skin. Also it is more plump than the Naga Morich or Bhut Jolokia. Another pepper related to it in Trinidad is the Trinidad Scorpion.
We will be growing these in 2010 as we have seed from two reputable sources. So I hope to have both seeds and fresh chiles next year for sale. And of course, plants if I can get more pure seed stock. We grow our Trinidad 7 Pot and other rare hot peppers Hydroponically. And we isolate our Trinidad 7 Pod plants for seed production to ensure that no cross-pollination happens. We also grow the Trinidad Scorpion, Naga Morich, Chocolate Habanero and many other Hot Chile Pepper plant varieties! We also have a full garden of other rare or hard to find organic vegetables. Find out more about our other produce at Selah Harvest!

Why I do what I do - Youth Venture(http://www.yvcenters.com)I was first drawn to chiles out of curiosity, not knowing that they would lead me to a greater purpose in life. Seeing the impact I had at the youth centers inspired me to do more for the kids, and the more I did, the more impact I had. God had introduced me to something as simple as a chile pepper. Where would it lead? ![]() See more of the kids, special events and the visiting Aztecs team in the photo gallery Now I was at two centers on Wednesdays and one on Fridays. My continued work with these youth is inextricably tied to, "Refining Fire." Though the business is not 100% non-profit, the expansion of salsa and chile sales enables me to increase my work with Youth Venture. The generation that succeeds us will inherit this earth. All of them were born with a purpose. We can contribute to their success by finding creative ways to love them. Though I do not accept donations, you may contribute to Youth Venture by contacting Suzanne Alicardi at Foothills Christian Church (619-442-7728). I trust the our website will contribute to your knowledge of chiles and hydroponic gardening. Most of all, I hope that you will volunteer to help youth wherever you live.
